The Visionary Board's Walking Tour of the BCD

The BCD initiative’s Visionary Board meets monthly to connect on various projects that we’re passionate about seeing though. This month, we met for a walking tour of the southern part of the district!

Our first stop was the new Sunlight Solar building on Hawthorne where two of our Visionary Board members are currently leasing space. We peaked in to see all it has to offer: a Net Zero Tesla solar roof, showers for bike commuters, a shared conference room, and a view of Pilot Butte. The building still has space available!

Next, we checked out two classic Bend antique stores that have recently relocated/put a second location in the BCD: Trivia Antiques and Iron Horse.

The Visionary Board members chatting about our role to steward the community’s vision for the Bend Central District to transform into a vibrant, healthy, and inclusive mixed-use neighborhood with safe connections between east and west Bend.

Some of our houseless neighbors have found a place to stay here. We recognize these folks have been residents of the BCD for many years and believe revitalization efforts need to include them as stakeholders. Check out these initiatives at the BottleDrop that consider how to help members of this community.

We braved crossing Franklin at NE 2nd where there is still no crosswalk (but legally pedestrians can use any intersection as a crosswalk)!

Empty parking lots that could be so much more…

…Like this lot on NE Hawthorne and NE 2nd St. It’s only 14,000 square feet, but look at what’s possible here: Petrich Development Opportunity

We ended the tour with a beverage in the sun at one of the most recently updated spots, the Campfire Motel on 3rd. Keep a look out for exciting news on what they have in store! Summer days by the pool here we come.
