#ProyectoMural has moved into its next stage and we are very excited to introduce you to our collaborators! We have partnered with Mecca Bend, a local Latinx community organization that offers DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) services, to collaborate on the vision and direction for our next mural in the Franklin underpass. Janet Sarai Llerandi Gonzalez, the director of Mecca Bend, gathered a diverse group of Latinx stakeholders who live, work, and commute in the Bend Central District to provide direction on the project. From their input, we have updated the project name to #ProyectoMural!

Adopting TIF in the BCD: What to Consider

In August, the Bend City Council created an urban renewal area around the Bend Central District (BCD) so that Tax Increment Financing (TIF) can be used to achieve the community’s goals for redeveloping the area. With funding available through TIF and the newly passed Transportation Bond, the City’s next step will be to define what will be funded and how. Public input is our greatest asset as we build strategies and make a pointed effort to consider every angle of the initiative. Central Oregon LandWatch’s BCD initiative has made outreach a top priority—an approach that has resulted in an outpouring of valuable insights, anecdotes and suggestions from our diverse community. One of their key projects to further the vision for a vibrant, healthy, and inclusive mixed-use neighborhood is designing a site plan for Visionary Board member Kurt Petrich’s property located on the corner of NE Hawthorne Ave and NE 2nd St.
